Foscam’s new FI8910W is available on Amazon for about $100. While similar to its predecessor, the FI8918W, the FI8910W has a very significant upgrade: it’s designed to mitigate the loss of daytime color accuracy that plagues most IR night vision network cameras. Using an “embedded IR-cut filter,” the FI8910W claims to provide true and accurate images, fixing the problems related to washed out and discolored images. The filter is also automated, so we’re not forced to adjust it for changing light conditions.
Another important feature: the IR can be turned off altogether. So if you want to point your camera out the window at night, you can turn off the IR and buy an infrared illuminator and stick it on the outside of the window, turning the FI8910W into a semi-outdoor camera that stays inside.
We’re going to pick up the FI8910W up this week and write a comparative post with side by side shots of the FI8918W and the FI8910W, so stay tuned! If you’ve already managed to get your hands on the new Foscam, put it up on Sensr.net and let us know what you think below!

Hello – any chance you can give some tips on connecting a Foscam outdoor camera FI6802W to sensr.net?
I’ve tried, but can’t get it to push the ftp like the FI8918W does
Thanks and keep up the good work!
Thanks for the complements.
My guess is that you don’t have the DNS setup on your cameras correctly. Are you using a static IP? If so, you might need to set the DNS servers on your camera manually. I had the same problem and wrote this blog post about it.

Let us know if this helps.
I have the DNS settings set (I use OpenDNS as well)
This FI8602W is a bit different than F98918W – different in that it can’t use DHCP, and more subtleties..
I’ll resort to another careful read of the directions..
Thanks
Well, I’m giving up for the moment on the FI8602W getting ftp’d up here on sensr.net. That ’602W puppy will have to be used in ways other than sensr.net monitoring. I suppose I should return it, but it’s an awesome piece of Tech.. and so shiny
I did get a FI8910W to work alongside my FI8918W on my initial system for monitoring ‘my stuff’. Aside from some new MS ‘issues’ about the levels of active X in the newer IPCamera, it was smooth as can be to add the ’10W and ftp it to sensr.net.
Thanks for your time – and I wish you the best here.
I got the F18905W Foscom outdoor (~$100 USD) and it ftp’s fine – nice little outdoor camera
No PTZ, but it ‘fits’ better technology wise with the FI891XW family for uploading to sensr.net and also for remote viewing – I can’t get the ’602 to do that either!
I better sell some systems soon or my wife will toss me out
Stay away from Foscam
I bought two cameras two weeks ago, and even paid for one day shipping. The jerks sent only one without a single word about the second. When I called, I was told it was a mistake, and a new one shall be shipped same day. Yeah right… A week goes by – no camera. I call again, they promise to check and call back – nothing. I call again, they say they are out of stock. Today, two weeks after they got my money, I still have no camera and nobody called or emailed to say when.
Not a bad product but a terrible, sub-standard and miserable company. They should go out of business!
Shalom
I got mine on Amazon and didn’t have any problems…
I got 2 direct from Foscam and didn’t have a problem either one. They had offered 1 day shipping on a camera that was back-ordered and removed the extra charge since they obviously couldn’t make the 1 day. I wanted to have the ‘real’ warranty and tech support since I’m new to these cameras
Sorry to hear!
I know 3 People who orderes directly from Foscam’s distributor in Germany. They got their cameras without any problem within 2 business days. I think that it’s inappropriate to tell the folks here to stay away from this fine piece of hardware just because your vendor had some issues in procuring your order.
I have the FOSCAM 8608W which uses H.264 CODEC as does your 8602W. I’m having the same probelm and I believe it’s with the H.264. I’m in the process of switching my cameras over to 8608s with or without sensr.
Yeah, and I roamed around looking for an ‘.asf player that worked and one was INCLUDED with the camera – I hadn’t read the damrections till a while later..
What is a 8608s switch?
If I hadn’t read your blog-entry about the new Foscam FI9810W I would have ordered the older model. Thanks!
I’ve just blogged about my IP cameras and Sensr for security at home or small businesses: http://goo.gl/DoM1L (German only, sorry). As a matter of fact this was the first blog entry for my new “I’m tired explaining this over and over again – please read my blog”-blog
Thanks for spreading the word about Sensr.net!
Can the FI8918 be upgraded with IR-Cut technology. I hate the pink trees, srubs, and grass.
I bought a set of Foscam FI8918Ws 2 months ago but found that they would periodically reboot for no apparent reason. Their tech support claimed it was most likely an issue with my power, but I’ve never had any issues with anything else.
Now the FI8910 has come out and hoping they fixed the reboot issue I called back and asked if I could return the old ones and replace with the new ones. Since I had reported issues, they said I could cross ship and I received the new ones a couple of days ago. Wouldn’t you know, they also seem to have the same problem. I suspect it might be a software problem, as the new cameras have the exact same firmware version as the old ones, even though it’s a different model.
I’ll see how these compare otherwise; the IR filter might be a worthwhile addition.
Try it on another network. I know it’s big task, but I had the same problem and it ended up my router couldn’t handle the network traffic from the camera.
I just bought my Fi8910w off amazon. However I’m having some issues understanding the manual that came with it. It is too technical for me. I did manage to set up the wifi system for the unit. But I’m not having much luck getting it to view and record online. I bought it primarily to check up on my dog while I’m at work. Which is why it would be nice to see her on camera on my iPhone. Additionally, if it had record function where I can review the tapes. The manual itself is not terribly helpful. Does anybody have any suggestion on a set up guide for macs? Thanks. Tanim
See our blog post on setting up the Foscam FI8910w for details.
You mention: “Another important feature: the IR can be turned off altogether. So if you want to point your camera out the window at night, you can turn off the IR and buy an infrared illuminator and stick it on the outside of the window, turning the FI8910W into a semi-outdoor camera that stays inside.”
Can you confirm that there is some way to do this? I have this camera and turning off the IR light automatically engages the IR-filter at the same time. This means that turning off the Foscam’s lights makes your exterior IR illuminator pointless. If I turn off the camera’s lights, it can no longer see the IR illuminator. Please let me know if there is some way to turn off the Foscam’s lights without also re-engaging the IR filter. Thanks
@Hank: Nope, there is no way to keep the IR-cut filter from engaging when the camera’s IR lights are off. Obnoxious, but that’s the way it is.
Might try covering the IR LEDs with black electrical tape or something else opaque and leave them on.
