Which plan do I choose?

[Update: Free plans are gone. We're evolving our pricing. See the plans page for details.]

We just announced our premium plans last week and we’ve had  a few questions.  The main differences between the various plans are the number of motion events per day that we will save and the length of time we’ll save them for.

What’s a motion event?

Basically this is a jpeg image that is saved when we detect motion in front of the camera.  Most security cameras are setup to send us 1 frame per second.  We will process that stream and keep any frames where we detect motion.  In beta, we limited this to 600 frames per hour.  Now we’re going to limit this on a daily basis, depending on which plan you select.

How many motion events do I need?

It really depends on how much motion you expect to have in front of your camera.  You can take a look at some of the public cameras on Sensr.net and get an idea.  If you look at the month view, you can see how many events are saved per day, it’s the number next to the date.  In the screen shot below, you can see that Saturdays tend to be busy on this camera, with around two thousand motion events.  Sunday’s are much quieter and January 1st was very quiet.

How long of an archive do I need?

It really depends on how often you will be checking your camera. If you leave for a week long vacation, you will probably want to have the Sensible Plan, which will give you two weeks of archives. If you plan on checking the camera every day or so, you might be able to get away with the free plan, which currently provides three days of archives.

What about live viewing?

Even if you’re on the free plan and we’re only storing 500 motion events per day, you’ll still be able to see every frame sent to Sensr.net in live mode. For live viewing, we simply re-broadcast frames as they come in. So if you’re watching the live stream of a camera on the free plan, you’ll see all the images that come into us. We occasionally timeout the live streams, just to make sure someone is really watching. If that happens, just reload the page and the live stream will restart. (This will be familiar to Pandora radio listeners…)

Premium accounts get alerts

You can configure Sensr.net to send you alerts via email or SMS.  (Not all mobile providers are supported at this time.)  This means that you can get an alert when we detect motion on your camera.

A reasonable free plan

We tried to make the free plan useful, we may tune these settings over the coming months.  Let us know what you think.

Great plans! Love the site, nothing else like it! Good thing there are no alerts included in the free plan, even a few would be enough to keep my modest house cam on the freebie ride. And after all your hard work, instant response to feedback (about mobile logins and other questions) I feel like paying in some small way to help out! Very modest pricing is a nice surprise, and I appreciate your attention to detail, thanks guys

    hi,

I had posted a message before on fb, really liked your service but I cannot find a plan that fits me. I need 3 month storage & everything else from the slim or even free plan .
Running a business here and sometimes need to know if I need to fire somebody I just can’t do that with only 30 days to look back at.
    Thanks for the good service.
    so long

I’m sorry to hear that you’re looking to fire someone. The Supreme plan should work for you. This will also allow you to add multiple cameras as well, all on one plan.

Who knows, maybe you’ll see something that will make you want to give someone a raise!

    Hi There

Trying your free service and what I can see looks great. I intend on the stellar service, I think it will do what I want. What I am wondering is there a way to just give some people access to the cameras vs everyone? I think I will have 8 cameras viewing a property with different activities, different people will want access to different views but I don’t want them to be able to make changes to the cameras. Is there a way to give a client an address to a specific camera?

    Thanks

    John

We’re planning on adding guest access soon. You’ll be able to select the users who can access your cameras. Each camera will have it’s own access list. How does that sound?

Where’s the free plan now? I only see $6 per month and up available. If I were to sign up on a pay plan I’d want a PayPal option too, which I do not see.

    Disappointed…

    • adam says:

No more free plans. If you were on a free plan before, we’re keeping those around for a while.

We’ll be implementing a free trial soon. But you can try it for only $6 per month, and cancel at any time if you don’t like the service. What’s that, the cost of a couple latte’s at Starbucks?

Sad to see such changes in the plans and its now looking way too expensive. I planned on free for both here and the Philippines but go stellar 3 months a year when we visit family. But at $6 a cam on a war pension that all looks out of the window now. If say $6 a month and unlimited cams as before ..that would work, but it looks like bandwidth is the problem and so sadly Sensr.net is really only good for Businesses who can afford a few Stellar Subscriptions or households with just one cam.

Maybe $6 etc a month and a bit of advertising, but sadly I think the yoyo effect might just kill it? :-(

    • adam says:

Sorry it doesn’t work for you. Advertising doesn’t really work for us and we need to build a sustainable business.

I am currently on the free plan and have just bought an extra camera and thought to upgrade my plan to include this.

    Seems a bit steep however.
    1 camera – free
2 cameras – $9 per month which includes features I don’t really need.

Guess ill be staying for free and using the NAS for the 2nd.

Where can I finde the free plans?
